Pilates
Pilates is a form of exercise that emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core
strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement. One of the best
things about the Pilates method is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy and people who are at various stages of physical rehabilitation. The top benefits doing of Pilates exercise that people report are that they become stronger, longer, leaner, and more able to do anything with grace and ease.*
Core strength is the foundation of Pilates exercise. The core muscles are the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back. When the core muscles are strong and doing their job, as they are trained to do in Pilates, they work in tandem with the more superficial muscles of the trunk to support the spine and movement. As you develop your core strength you develop stability throughout your entire torso. This is one of the keys to how Pilates helps people overcome back pain. As the trunk is properly stabilized, pressure on the back is relieved and the body is able to move freely and efficiently.*
Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates during WWI in hopes to improve rehabilitation efforts for injured veterans. Pilates developed a collection of precise movements that would emphasize the control and form necessary to aid injured soldiers as they worked to regain their health by strengthening, stretching and stabilizing key muscle groups.
Classes are taught on the Peak Reformer, Tower, Mat, High Low Combination Chair or 3 in 1 Spine Corrector which allows for great diversity and creativity in the workouts and the ability to meet the needs of all ages, abilities and goals.

Yoga is a healing system of theory and practice. It is a combination of breathing exercises, physical postures, and meditation that has been practiced for more than 5,000 years. Initailly the discipline of hatha yoga, the physical aspect of yoga , was developed as a vehicle for meditation. the repertoire of hatha yoga prepared the body, and particularly the nervous system, of the ancient yogis for stillness, creating the necessary physical strength and stamina that allowed the mind to remain calm. In today's world, yoga enhances the ability to stay calm and grounded during our daily encounters and activities.
Classes incorporate forward bends, back bends, twists, balances and inversions to balance and calm the body, mind and soul. Sessions are customized to the unique needs and levels of the students. Sessions are challenging, inspiring and nurturing. Each class begins with a theme; poem, inspiring story, thought or affirmation that is then woven into the class and the vinyasa or flowing movement.
